HISTORY

Many years ago one sunny day, Pappy and me drove to Smith Chevrolet in Gastonia, NC. to pick up my Vega panel truck. It was a 1973 white Vega and just what I wanted. This was the era of the pro stock Vega and I wanted one for the street . The House of Chrome had a black one with a 350 and it was Sweet. Dad and Mom, Mother and Father, Betty and William F. Tippins Sr.as always were the first to help and they were the reason I was going. How could they have known the road that car would take me down and the fast rides to come all because of that white Vega. I fixed her up and drove her hard, and had the time of my life and over the years she got away and I always regretted letting her go.

Now we are in the 44th year of the red bird. I was home for my birthday on which pappy said come look at this....... across the street in and old friends back yard was a '77 Vega panel truck, not so clean and sweet as the one we got from Smith, but a Vega still, and one that was a lot like my old one. Pappy said "would you like this old thing son"? Well, I had been a man for many years and away from my folks more than I wanted, but at that moment I knew I was still their boy. "Your Mother and I bought it for you son" , I know a Vega isn't much to some , but I tell you it wouldn't mean more to me if it was made of solid gold.

So this is the story of the journey from the day this took place to the day when this baby doll will be the finest hotrod I have ever laid my hand to. All I have learned about building cars will be used to make this one something sweet and when it's finished I will cruise down the highway and dream a little boys dream come true. TOOTEES
